A small gleaming Buddha is framed by one of
the peaks of the at the Lee Oriental Rock
Garden.
There was something about this scene that reminded me that rock gardens are
metaphors for our larger environment. Small stones representing big stones.
Small landscapes representing big landscapes.
Asian societies have long valued this idea and its consequent art forms, such
as Chinese gardens and Japanese gardens.
In Chinese gardens, rocks many times play the role of sculpture in Western
gardens. Mr. Lee's Garden utilizes both rocks and sculpture, and just about anything
else you can think of! Return to the map of "Rock Art in the Valley of
the Sun" for more view locations.
