Valley Trail in South Mountain Park. This tunnel, actually formed by a
rockfall, is a popular rest spot.
South Mountain is a great place to see the structure of a , as well as a variety of Sonoran Desert vegetation.
These rocks were once thought to be much, much older --
in age -- but new theories of formation and our understanding of the geology here tell us
that they are indeed younger than the Precambrian western end of South Mountain.
