This image looks to the north from near the summit of
the Hedgpeth Hills. In the distance is Pyramid Peak (elevation = 2269 feet,
692m), one of the Deem Hills. Its striking profile is also visible as one approaches
Phoenix from the north, coming down I-17 from the Carefree Highway intersection.
Closer, on the left, is Ludden Mountain (elevation = 2197 feet,
670m). More basalt is visible in the foreground here, but the Deem Hills are
composed mostly of ancient , and other
age volcanic rocks.
The houses and streets in the small valley are part of the City of Phoenix.
