This view
looks right down into the heart of north Scottsdale, Arizona, from high in the McDowell
Mountains. You can see the runway of Scottsdale Airport on the right, and
the area is known locally as the Scottsdale Airpark.
The are the first mountain range
in the distance. On their left end, just to the right of the big mountain in the
foreground, is Camelback Mountain, and directly above and
behind the runway is Squaw Peak.
The higher range in the far background is the Sierra
Estrella, at this point about 40 miles (65km) away. Both of these ranges show
the parallel nature of faulting in this area.
From the Sierra Estrella, you can see a reverse view.
