When I first approached the Lee Oriental Rock Garden in
Phoenix, I simply could not believe my eyes. It is visually almost too much to take
in -- fractal in nature, even -- detail within detail. The above picture does not do
the Garden justice, as the lighting is wrong, with the sun behind it all, but you can get
the idea.
Venture through this series of views, starting with "Next View"
above and take a look at it!
Mr. Louis Lee has spent more than 40 years constructing this work of
art. Rocks are employed throughout the structure, forming the majority of the
decor. As at the other rock gardens I've visited, here too I was looking for some
deep meaning, so I asked Mr. Lee why he liked rocks so much. He replied
matter-of-factly, "Well, they fit into the places well. I don't have to measure
or shape them, and they are strong."

the Sun" for more view locations.
