Canyon Lake is one of the man-made lakes on the Salt River
(Rio Salado) in the Superstition Mountains of central Arizona. A very popular
boating area, it is formed behind Mormon Flat Dam.
Rocks visible across the lake were formed by a series of violent volcanic
eruptions, which have left their record in the form of three ancient .
Little surface trace of these giant craters is left, but the outlines of them can be
reconstructed by geological evidence. If one of these were active today, it would be
referred to as a "supervolcano".
