The north end of the McDowell Mountains is a favorite spot for rock climbers in the Phoenix/ Scottsdale metro area.
   here weathers into a multitude of pinnacles, spires (like Tom's Thumb here, on the right side of the skyline -- it's farther away than it looks!), and boulders easily visible from many places in the Valley of the Sun.
   Scenery surrounding the Four Seasons Resort, Scottsdale is dominated by surrealistic formations like this, displaying rock that is among the most ancient in North America!
